This four-week study brings those things naturally into your homeschool lessons through Scripture, beautiful Christmas books, copywork, geography, Christmas carols, and simple handicrafts, all centered around the story of Christ’s birth.

You can use it as your main Christmas study during December or simply enjoy the pieces that fit naturally into your family’s Advent rhythm.

What’s Included in This Free Christmas Curriculum

This four-week Christmas study follows the story of Christ’s birth and gives your homeschool a gentle change of pace for December.

Each week includes:

• Scripture readings that gently walk through the Christmas story
• Copywork taken from meaningful Bible passages
• Christmas carols and hymns to sing and enjoy together
• Living Christmas books that bring the season to life
• Simple geography and mapwork connected to Bethlehem and the biblical story
• Handicrafts and creative activities that give children something beautiful to make with their hands

I love having something like this to turn to during December because it still feels like we are learning, but in a way that fits the season. Instead of trying to push through a full school day, we can gather together with a good book, sing a carol, work on a simple project, and spend time with the Christmas story.

A Look Inside the Four Weeks

Each week centers on a different part of the Christmas story, giving us time to enjoy the Scripture, books, music, and simple activities together throughout the season.

Week 1: The Promise of a Savior

We begin with the Old Testament promises of the coming Savior and Gabriel’s announcement to Mary. This week includes Scripture, meaningful copywork, simple mapwork, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski, and an angel ornament to make together.

Week 2: The Journey to Bethlehem

Next, we follow Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus. Along the way, we spend time with the Scripture account, copywork, Bethlehem mapwork, O Little Town of Bethlehem, The Christmas Story by Brian Wildsmith, and a simple nativity scene to color, cut out, and assemble.

Week 3: The Shepherds Hear the Good News

This week we spend time with the shepherds and the angels who announced the birth of Christ. We read the biblical account, enjoy meaningful copywork, sing Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, read The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado, and color and label a sweet lamb together.

Week 4: The Wise Men and the Star

We finish with the wise men and the star, reading and copying from the biblical account, looking at the lands east of Judea on the map, singing We Three Kings, reading The Other Wise Man by Henry Van Dyke, and decorating a Star of Bethlehem to display with your Christmas decorations.

Using the Christmas Curriculum with the Whole Family

One of my favorite things about this Christmas study is that we can gather together for most of it as a family, even with children at different ages and stages.

Younger children can listen to the stories, sing the carols, enjoy the handicrafts, and narrate what they remember. Older children can take on more of the copywork, mapwork, written narration, or additional reading when it feels appropriate.

The shared readings, music, Scripture, and projects give us something beautiful to enjoy together, while the individual work can be adjusted naturally for each child. It makes Christmas school feel simple, connected, and easy to enjoy as a family.

A Few Things We Add to Our Christmas Homeschool

The Christmas curriculum gives us plenty to enjoy during December, but there are a few other things I still like to keep in our days too.

Nature Study: We still make time to get outside, even when the weather is cold. Winter has so many little things to notice, from bare branches and evergreen trees to animal tracks and winter birds. More Christmas Living Books: I almost always have extra Christmas books tucked into our days simply because there are so many beautiful ones to enjoy this time of year. I recently put together a list of our favorite Christmas living books if you would like a few more to add to your December reading stack.

A Little of Our Regular Schoolwork: I usually keep math going during December and then let this Christmas study take the place of quite a bit of our regular work. The Scripture, copywork, books, geography, music, and handicrafts give us such a lovely variety of lessons while still allowing the season to feel different from the rest of our school year.
